September

Welcome to the September 2019 News Letter

Swallowfield Local History Newsletter

Thursday, 19th September 7:45pm for 8:00pm.

Rose Room. Swallowfield Parish Hall.

Once again, our exhibition at the horticultural show attracted lots of attention and interest. The display of ‘Then and now’ photographs, showing buildings as they were and as they are now, drew people’s attention.

We would be interested to hear from anyone who has any stories of these buildings, or any that have now disappeared, which will add to our knowledge bank of local history.

On Thursday 19th September we will welcome Thomas Macey, who will give a presentation called The Story of Jacksons Iconic DepartmentStore 1875–2013. (It closed its doors for the last time in 2013.)

Thomas has spent many hours researching the history of the store which was established in 1875 by Edward Jackson. His knowledge is extensive and his interest was sparked by the years he spent working in the store.

We are certainly looking forward to listening to thstory Thomas has to tell about such an important emporium as Jacksons of Reading. CANCELLED

Our meetings are usually on the third Thursday of the month in the Rose Room at Swallowfield Parish Hall at 7.45pm for 8.000pm. Visitors are always welcome.
