February News Letter

Welcome to the February 2020 News Letter

By the time this issue is printed, we will have held our New Year’s Dinner at the Mill House Hotel which is always such an enjoyable evening.

On Thursday 20th February we are so pleased to be able to welcome Thomas Macey (who had to cancel his visit in September due to illness). His presentation is called The Story of Jacksons Iconic Department Store 1875-2013. Thomas has spent many hours researching the history of the store which was established in 1875 by Edward Jackson. His knowledge is extensive and his interest was sparked by the years he spent working in the store.

We are certainly looking forward to listening to the story Thomas has to tell about such an important

emporium as Jacksons of Reading.

Our meetings are usually on the third Thursday of the month in the Rose Room at the Swallowfield Parish Hall at 7.45pm for 8.00pm. Visitors are always welcome. If youhave any queries, please contact Maggie Uttley (Secretary) on 0118 988 2954 or [email protected] com. Check our website, www.slhsoc.org.uk,

for our programme for the year.
