Swallowfield Local History Society

April News Letter

Welcome to the April 2022 News Letter.

We had a very successful AGM on 17th March 2022. Some important decisions were made.

It was agreed at the AGM that we will no longer have Life Membership and all exiting Life Members will be offered to retain membership by paying the yearly subscription fee, and come and enjoy the programme for 2022/23. The current subscription fee is £5.00 per year and meeting fee of £2.00. Non members will be charged £3.00 per meeting.

If you would like to become a member for this current year, you can either send me a cheque or come to a meeting and pay your subscription. If you would like to pay by bank transfer can you email me and I will give you the Societies bank details.

It was proposed that we made Ken Hussey President of the Swallowfield Local History Society.

This is a role which was held with great success by Tony Fletcher until his death some years ago.    The role of President has not been occupied since then.

We feel the time has come to acknowledge the enormous contribution Ken has made to the History Society:

Ken Hussey was a founder Member of the History Society and

has been Chairman of the Committee for many, many years.

His health has declined recently with his mobility severely curtailed.

This means that he is now not able to carry out the duties of a

Chairman to their full capacity.

His commitment, strength of determination to make the History Society acknowledged and remembered is second to none.   Together with his ideas and the development of the archives

we now have, make him a truly ideal candidate for the Presidency.

The motion was agreed by the meeting

We welcome everyone to our Meetings - Members and anyone interested in local History.

If you have any queries or questions please don't hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely

Mike Round (Treasurer)
